Introduction:

Today’s web is not passive. Rather than being consumers of information, us­ers can be active participants, creative contributors, customizers of media and technology for their own purposes. In this course, you’ll learn a variety of Web 2.0 tools and technologies as we effectively integrate them into our teaching. As you transform your teaching, the resulting 21st century classroom will yield digital students who are goal-oriented and able to pursue multiple outcomes at the same time.

This generation of 21st Century learners are determined, focused on success and creators of their own destiny. This knowledge forces us, as educators, to pause and ponder the driving question of this course:

How can educators design a learning environment using Web 2.0 tools that supports and engages our digital generation of students?

The objectives of this course are:
  1. To learn about and implement Web 2.0 technologies, as tools to support teaching for understanding;
  2. To design and implement Web 2.0 tools to support increased relationships, rigor, and relevance; and
  3. To develop a deeper understanding of 21st century learning

TAKE THIS SELF ASSESSMENT:

This course is not designed for those with Beginning level skills but those who are comfortable with online learning. To assist you with determining our aptitude for this online course we have developed the following list of questions. If you can answer YES to 4 out of 5 of these questions then online learning may be a good fit your you:

  • Do you check and respond to email multiple times each day?
  • Do you have 2-3 hours per week to devote to this online course?
  • Do you consider yourself to be a self motivated, independent learner?
  • Do you have computer and Internet access available at home?
  • Are you able to effectively navigate websites?
  • Do you actively participate in learning by doing tasks, projects, etc.?
